Because of its strategic location and only one accessible side due to steep terrain, the Sankagiri was impregnable.

One of the last people to build a temple here was a member of the Chettiar dynasty who believed the area around the sanctum sanatorium was cursed. The Sankagiri is open to visitors from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The entry fee for Indians is Rs.25 INR and Rs.300 INR for foreigners.
